International Golf Federation Announces Partnership with Geo Foundation to Advance Golf’s Sustainability Efforts

LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND (Wednesday, 15 January 2025) – The International Golf Federation (IGF) today announced a four-year agreement with the GEO Sustainable Golf Foundation to promote environmental stewardship and climate action in golf.

The partnership, which will be in effect from January 2025 through 2028, will help the IGF and its Member Federations implement best-in-class sustainability practices.

“We are thrilled to join forces with the GEO Foundation to advance our sustainability goals,” said IGF Executive Director Antony Scanlon. “This partnership will ensure the IGF meets our commitments while also empowering our Member Federations to champion environmental initiatives themselves creating lasting benefits for the sport and for communities worldwide.”

Through the collaboration, the Geo Foundation will offer expert guidance, resources, and tools to support the IGF as a signatory of the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework and the IUCN Sport for Nature Initiative.

Also included in the comprehensive strategy will be best practices and activations for the World Amateur Team Championships and golf’s engagement in the Olympics, plus collaboration and the provision of supporting resources, programs, and projects for IGF Member Federations.

“This partnership exemplifies our shared commitment to establishing golf as a leader in sustainability and sport,” said Jonathan Smith, Executive Director of the GEO Foundation. “By working with the IGF and its members, we will help strengthen the culture of environmental responsibility across golf, accelerate further collective action and drive measurable progress and positive impact.

Efforts will be focused on carbon footprint reduction as well as generating positive outcomes across key elements of sustainable golf, aligned closely to several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The partnership represents another significant step towards solidifying a more sustainable future for golf, aligning with international climate and biodiversity targets and ensuring the sport’s positive influence on future generations.
